Oatmeal-Lavender Bath for Eczema and Itchy Skin

Oatmeal-Lavender Bath for Eczema and Itchy Skin | Aiane Karla | www.aianekarla.com

It's been a dry and hot summer here in San Diego. A couple posts ago, I wrote about my recent struggles with eczema. Switching to a fully gluten-free and vegan diet has been a little helpful, but the summer heat has been exacerbating my skin's itchiness. A couple weeks ago, the eczema spots on my back became rough and dry, so I started looking for natural remedies to soothe my skin.

My dermatologist recommended I try an oatmeal bath to help calm my skin and reduce the itchiness, so I went to our local health food store and bought a packet of oatmeal-lavender bath. The packet listed three ingredients: rolled oats, lavender flowers, and lavender essential oil. I figured it would be easy to make my own oatmeal-lavender bath and decided to give it a try.

I was quite amazed by the outcome! My Vitamix dry blade blender smelled heavenly after blending the dry ingredients. And better yet? My skin was so smooth and soft after my bath!

Do you know anyone suffering from eczema or itchy skin? Why not share this natural remedy recipe with them?

Oatmeal-Lavender Bath for Eczema and Itchy Skin

  • 1 cup organic rolled oats

  • 1 Tbsp organic lavender flowers

  • 12 drops lavender essential oil

  1. Place oats and lavender flowers into high-speed blender (I use the dry blade Vitamix blender)

  2. Turn blender on high (for Vitamix use High, Speed 10) for 10-20 seconds. If using the Vitamix, secure the blender lid and use tamper if necessary to get the ingredients moving.

  3. Add dry ingredients to warm bath water.

  4. Add lavender essential oil and mix well to distribute.

  5. Soak for 15-20 minutes.
